Dr John J Ryan

Dr. John J Ryan is the Medical Director of The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical Centre. Dr. Ryan is a graduate of University College Galway. John is a native of Donnybrook Dublin 4. A proud member of the IRFU for over twenty years John has played both junior and senior rugby with London Irish. He went on to do both the Western training scheme in psychiatry and the vocational GP training schemes. Dr. Ryan is a founder member of D doc, Dublin doctors on call. The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical Centre was founded in 2005 by John, is a fully computerized practice, and has electronic links to the labs at St Vincent’s Hospital Dublin 4 and St James Hospital Dublin 8, which are both national centers of excellence. Trained across the British Isles, John has trained with the Royal College of Gynecologists in London. John is a national expert on steroid joint injections with over 25 years of experience in the field.  John looks after mainly professional sports players and patients with arthritis in this respect.

Dr. John J. Ryan has 8 professional higher medical diplomas in total.  
Dr. John J Ryan has a diploma in child health from the Royal College of Surgeons, and a diploma in women’s health from the Irish College of Physicians. He also has a diploma in clinical psychiatry from the Irish College of Physicians. Dr. Ryan also has a diploma in geriatric medicine from the Irish College of Physicians. Dr. Ryan has full medical registration with both the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council of Great Britain. Dr. Ryan has a DRCOG diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London. Dr. Ryan has a joint diploma in sports medicine from the Irish College of General Practitioners and the Royal College of Physicians Ireland. Dr. Ryan has a higher diploma in dermatology from University College Dublin. Dr. Ryan has a higher diploma in patient safety from the Irish College of Physicians of Ireland.
Dr. Ryan is an associate member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London. Dr. Ryan has full indemnity insurance from the Medical Protection Society in London.



Dr Caoimhe Daly


MICGP MB.BCH BAO Diploma in Obs and Gyn London. 

Dr. Caoimhe Daly runs her Well Woman Clinic at the Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical every Wednesday from 9 am to 5 pm. Caoimhe is in the United States of America at present for further training in medicine until 2024. She is a graduate of University College Dublin and the Leinster GP training scheme. She also has a certificate in contraception from the ICGP and is a specialist in the insertion of both Mirena and copper coils. Dr. Daly has done all her hospital rotations in Dublin hospitals in the areas of Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, General Medicine, Psychiatry, and Endocrinology. She has also trained in Australia at the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth. Dr. Daly also inserts and removes the subdermal contraceptive implant Implanon.



Dr Jessica Barnes


MB.BCH.BAO MICGP Diploma in Obs and Gyn London. 

Dr. Jessica Barnes runs her Well Woman Clinic on a Thursday at The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical from 9 am to 5 pm. Jessica graduated from University College Dublin in 2011. After her internship, Dr. Barnes spent a year working in Perth Australia, in emergency medicine before returning to Ireland to commence the UCD/Mid Leinster vocational GP training scheme. Dr. Barnes worked in Pediatrics, General Medicine, Psychiatry, Medicine for the Elderly, and Emergency Medicine in Dublin hospitals prior to graduation from the Leinster GP scheme. Jessica has a special interest in women’s health and holds a Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London. She is trained in LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives) and can insert/remove subdermal implants.



Dr Gemma Kiernan


B.A., Ph.D., Postgrad Dip. Psychotherapy, REg Psychol. Ps.S.I. MIACP

Dr Gemma Kiernan has joined our practice and has her private rooms at the d2  medical centre. Dr. Gemma Kiernan is a Registered Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist and has a PhD in psychology. She has worked in a range of health and educational organisations and is currently a Senior Lecturer in psychology and psychotherapy in Dublin City University. In her private practice, she provides a caring and respectful clinical environment drawing on integrative psychotherapeutic principles, including cognitive behavioural strategies, to help people cope with a wide range of psychological issues and to make positive changes in their lives. Specialisms and expertise include stress, anxiety and depression, psychological aspects of physical illnesses such as cancer, and bereavement and loss. Dr. Kiernan has over 20 psychological publications including peer reviewed and professional journals, book chapters and reports, and over 50 national and international conference presentations. Dr Noelle Casey


MB.BCH.BAO MICGP MRCPI Diploma in Obs and Gyn London. Diploma in Child Health

Dr. Casey runs her Well Woman Clinic on Tuesdays at The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical from 9 am to 5 pm. Noelle graduated from University College Dublin in 2009. After her internship at St Vincent’s University Hospital, she spent a year working in  Sydney Australia, in emergency medicine before returning to Ireland where she completed her medical memberships with RCPI. She subsequently trained in UCD/Mid Leinster vocational GP training scheme. Dr. Casey worked for nearly two years in Vancouver, Canada as a Family Physician before returning to Ireland in 2020.  She has a special interest in women’s health and holds a Diploma from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in London. She is trained in LARC (Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives) and can insert/remove subdermal implants.  Dr. Casey also has a Diploma in Child Health.



Miss Niamh O'Leary


Niamh is the newest member of the team and joined The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical in 2019. Her pleasant professional manner and people skills are a huge benefit to the practice. She provides a vital service in the front house and on the phone supporting the clinical staff. Niamh has led the reception team through the pandemic and is now promoted the practice manager in 2023.



Andrew Watson


Andrew Watson Certified Athletic Therapist & Chartered Physiotherapist

Andrew is the lead practitioner chartered physiotherapist of Raglan Sports Medicine at D2 Medical with Dr John J Ryan. A Certified Athletic Therapist with Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland (ARTI) and Chartered Physiotherapist with the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP), he previously worked as a rehabilitation specialist with Dr Conor P. O’Brien, Consultant Neurophysiologist and Physician in Sports and Exercise Medicine, at the Raglan Clinic.

He graduated with honours from a BSc Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation degree in IT Carlow after completing his internship in Texas A&M University in College Station, USA. He has also obtained a second primary degree in Physiotherapy from University College Dublin. He received his MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Glasgow under the tutelage of Prof. Stuart Hillis, renowned cardiologist and expert in sports medicine, in 2011. Andrew is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and an accredited member of BASRaT. In 2012, Andrew became one of the first Athletic Therapists in the country to be accredited by the Irish Sports Council and accepted on to the High Performance Panel of Performance Sports Services.

He has experience treating and training people from all walks of life including several athletes who competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Previously a keen rugby player, he has remained heavily involved in the sport and has been the Head of Physiotherapy to Suttonians RFC since 2010 along with consulting for other sports teams in Dublin. Andrew is constantly educating himself in the latest research and techniques in order to pass on the best quality treatment to his patients. This has led him to introduce therapies into Ireland and produce peer-reviewed literature on its efficacy. Andrew and John have worked as a team for over 4 years. Only in the most difficult of cases will john go forward and free up a joint for Andrew with a steroid joint injection in his sports medicine practice in D2 Medical

Aoibhin Hassett


Aoibhín Hassett joined The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical in October 2022. She has a background in both hospitality and medical administration, bringing a wealth of experience delivering excellent customer service. As well as working with both Dr. John J. Ryan and Dr. Jessica Barnes at The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical, she is currently studying Psychology. She is a vital part of the front-of-house admin team and provides excellent support to both patients and the expert medical team.



Dr Lucy Belton


Dr Lucy Belton MICGP Awarded October 2012, runs her GP wemons health clinic every Friday at The Fitzwilliam Square D2 Medical.  Lucy has associate Membership of the Royal College of Physicians Paediatrics. Lucy is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons Dublin North East GP training scheme 2012. She is a graduate of University College Dublin Honours degree. Lucy has a Diploma in Child Health and a specialist interest in women’s health. Dr. Belton has gone on to work as a community medical physician for Wicklow and South County Dublin. Lucy was a family doctor at the Kilmainiham Medical Centre before joining the medical team at Fitzwilliam Square.



Dr. Lucy McShane


Dr. Lucy Mc Shane studied medicine as a graduate entry student at UCD completing her degree in 2015. She has a primary degree in business, from Trinity College Dublin. She went on to complete General Practice training through the Dublin/Mid Leinster GP training scheme in 2021. Throughout her training, she rotated through jobs in Geriatric Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, Emergency Medicine, and General Medicine. She holds a Diploma in obstetrics and gynecology from the RCPI, a Certificate in contraception, has completed LARC training – implanon insertion/removal, coil insertion/removal –  and a Certificate in Dermatology (UCD). Dr. McShane runs her well-woman clinic on Mondays at the D2 Fitzwilliam Square Medical Centre.



Anne Marie Tyrrell


Nurse Anne-Marie Tyrrell joined D2 Medical in July 2023. She is a graduate of the Mater Hospital but has spent most of the last 25 years in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital where she worked primarily in oncology services. She completed a Higher Diploma in Cancer Care in 2017 and worked both in the inpatient in daycare oncology units during that period. Laterally she worked in Occupational Health during the Covid pandemic. She has also achieved a higher Diploma in Business Management and worked as a business and clinical developer in a medical devices company in her early career.
